How can I prevent stretch marks during pregnancy?

Hello, I am 8 weeks pregnant right now and I am very concern about having stretch marks! My mom has two kids and she has pretty ugly stretch marks, so I am worried that I might also get them as pregnancy grows. Any suggestion on products I can start using right now to prevent them? Thank you so much in advance:)

I used Bio-Oil and have not had stretch marks yet. Its really good for scars too because its made with Purecellin Oil, a natural emolient that ur skin makes to guarantee healing and elasticity. I love the smell, its not expensive and it really works. I would recommend it. And hell no stretch marks are not hereditary WTF

I would use Palmers Cocao butter if I were you and also stay very hydrated. I know that stretch marks are hereditary and if other ladies in your family have them you probably will get them too but you can try to lessen them. My mother has stretch marks and I thought I would get them too but I've been drinking a lot of water and using this cream and I'm 21 weeks along and so far no stretch marks! I have some on my breasts but they aren't that bad and seem to look better when I use the cream.

There's nothing you can do to prevent them. You can try applying lotion but it doesn't help. Stretch marks will appeared once you get bigger. This is how pregnancy is.. nothing you can do to stop them for coming..

If stretch marks are heavy in your family than there is a chance you will get som regardless of what you use but bio oil is said to be the best for smoothing them out and even for some people that i know it has worked completely. They are lucky. lol i've used cocoa butter and im still getting them, but my mom also has them HEAVY on her stomach, Mine doesn't look anything like hers but she said she used Nothing. So i think cocoa butter and bio oil at least helps a little bit if anything.

Whether or not you get stretchmarks depends on your genetic makeup and the durability of your skin to begin with. To be effective at all in preventing them would be to not gain an excessive amount of weight, drink plenty of water to keep your body (and skin) well hydrated, eat healthy foods, and keep your skin moisturized.

For what it's worth: I was concerned about stretchmarks as well. I didn't have any until I was 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I swear they came overnight! But I had a beautiful healthy baby born: 8 lbs 14 oz, 22 inches long after 27 hours of labor. I went 41 weeks. And if birthing a healthy baby costs stretchmarks then so be it :) I loved every bit of it.

Unfortunately, you can't. There are so many products out there that promise to prevent them, but they don't work. If you have the type of skin prone to stretch marks (light toned skin will get them the worst), they can't be prevented. Pregnant skin tends to be dry, so putting any kind of lotion or cream on it will hydrate the skin, making it more comfortable and less itchy, but if you stretch too quickly, the marks will occur no matter what. Since your mom got them, chances are you will too. I know it sucks, I'm also pregnant and my mom also has horrific stretch marks, so I'll probably get them too. There are just so many other things I need my money for (pregnancy pillows, etc., and things for the baby), I don't see the point in wasting it on any products that promise to keep stretch marks away when they're inevitable. Sorry if this isn't the answer you're looking for, but that's just how it is. You can ask your doctor if you're not sure. Good luck with the pregnancy!

Cocoa butter for your belly and breasts! I'm 20 weeks pregnant and that's what i've been using and though they aren't totally gone- it's not something that you can stop from happening, they are much lighter in color.

Whatever anyone says, you can't prevent them if you are going to get them. It is a physical phenomenon that no creams can stop.

You can't. The values and textures of your skin are hereditary. They will lessen after delivery, but never go away. Sorry. Anything you smear ON you skin in not absorbed into the layers BELOW the epidermis. The only people profiting from the sale of expensive creams are those making them.... ask your doc.

Whatever you do DON'T SCRATCH at least that's what my mom told me & you can also use the gel you get from the inside of an aloe plant they are fairly inexpensive cocoa butter works better if you apply it after taking a bath! I went from105 lbs to 160 lbs with my son and have no stretch marks.Good luck and congratulations on your baby!

I use Palmer's cocoa butter especially for Tummy Stretch Marks. I bought it at Walmart or Kmart I think. It's almost like a wax. HOWEVER, no cream or oil is going to prevent stretch marks. They will help some with the appearance, but if your body grows too fast, you will get them. I have used all sorts of lotions, etc since the beginning (I am 37 weeks) and I had NO stretch marks until about two weeks ago. Then I got a bunch. I asked my doctor and she told me about the oils and creams only doing so much...but it will help so they "disappear" after birth or don't look as bad. So, they aren't pointless, but they aren't perfect either. I would use something specific to stretch marks during pregnancy to help keep your skin hydrated (which is a big part of what stretch marks are--also one reason with weather changing that I just randomly got some..not using the creams enough to stay hydrated). You could be a lucky one who never gets them though! Good luck!
