Do you lose water or actual fat when on a liquid diet with vitamins and protein?

I have been put on a liquid diet by my surgeon for the pre-op for my lapband surgery I am having. He has me on a daily multi-vitamin and I drink protein shakes all day and on a liquid diet.

My question is: When you lose weight on a liquid diet, is it water or actual fat?

Thanks in advance!

The most Effective way to burn body fat and gain muscle is to have a healthy diet. In addition, you need at least 10 minutes of cardio exercise per day. I did about 10 minutes a day running (playing basketball), and then some weight training. I am also taking a supplement. If you are going to be bodybuilding then I would suggest taking some sort of supplement. My trainer told me about his website that offers a discount on the supplement I use. I would recommend trying out some of these supplements. Lean Muscle X is what I use. Right now I am around 10% body fat and I look pretty ripped lol. The vast majority of diets will make you lose water, vitamins and minerals. It would appear that he has you on a very low cal diet, and trying to compensate for these by supplementing those.

Supplementing is never as good as the real thing, and water is stored with carbs, (one reason why low cal diets make you lose water weight).

You probably will end up losing some water weight and a bit of fat weight.

If you want to actually lose fat though you need to combine dieting with exercise. Right now your body is entering "starvation mode" and it will try to conserve energy, your metabolism is going to lower.

Overall, you probably will lose some actual fat, its not going to be healthy for you, but I assume theres a rush to get you thin and you cannot exercise?
